how would one calculate the angles of the servos without ik/fk anyway?
(assuming you only input the position of the wrist of the robotic arm to the function moving the arm)
id find it interesting if you could do your mocab device with only the use of acelerometers and gyros attached to teh limbs, with some sort of reference pose for calibration
sounds pretty easy for me, (from harware side)
gyro + axelerometer + small µc + wifi/rf/whatever wireless communication
on one board gives about the size of a laptop ram module
than put this thing into things like that
but without the blood pressure measuring shit, or even take a cheap inline skating protector set with helmet
and you have your limb sensor ... YAY!
and a protocol like ID,acc x, y, z, gyr x, y, z.
and
with such a thing and a few cables (like this)
you could even spare the extra wireless mopdule and handle the whole communication in the belly bag
and the rest is code, calibration and brainage

2 pin cable is enough i think because of ground, v+ and data, since its a one way communication
the sensor µcs only have to collect their data, serialize it provide it to the main µc
and that one only collects the node data and send it via wireless
and the computer has to collect the data from the main µc and calculate the positions from the aceleration and gyro, probably a 3 axis gyro alone would work too but i dunno

a wii motion plus is almost the perfect fit for a node, it has a 3 axis gyro and communicates via i²c,, and is under $20
i think one can get away with 12 of these devices which is klike $240
+ your arduino for the main controller and $30 for a zigbee

Yes,Making robots is what i study.
<in university, this semester I'm taking robotics > as I'm a fourth year student.
4/5 years are almost done.
got my Arduino uC [uC: MicroController], and created a Device with it that let you drive a 3d car using a tilt sensor, Blender's Game engine.
Might make a motion capture device as a graduation project, but don't know yet if there are any other ideas my colleagues would come up with.
I'm studying night and day + teaching 3D in a local Center here in Jordan
...I wish I have time to spend on Anubis now
if the MoCap device happened, I might make a short film of anubis and Magicians.
PS: believe it or not, we do IK/FK calculations of robotic arms!!
