So yeah, after having way to much time of doing game art since I've been busy with my arch viz internship, I've finally decided to step on and start out doing an environment from some Darksiders concept art I found online.
Anyways, this is my first time doing anything in this scale, and quality(atleast what I hope to achieve).
I've started doing a basic flesh out, while there still are some inaccuricies here and there, I think I'm getting there, still gonna tweak the proportions a bit and figure out how to change the FOV inside UDK.
The concept art I'm working from(all credits are due to the dude who made this piece):
The blockout so far:
I'm here to learn, so please tear it apart and help me become better at this
Replies
your blockout is good .. but if you see at the concept , the main house is big but in your blocking looking a little bit smaller and make it up a little
keep it up
This. In the reference picture it just looks like there was a big chunk of bridge that fell, and overall it's pretty straight.
Again, tear it apart! I want to make sure my blockout is there before moving on!
1 question is the concept above ground or below.. from bits of the far ground i would say below but u could also argue that its storm clouds.
And yeah this doesn't really remind me of the crossroads level in the game (the concept) at this point in the game for me, but I'm usually never surprised when the game doesn't end up looking more so like the concept.
Version 2 does look a lot better. I guess my only gripe would be the left side of the middle road and how there are two stones that fit in the concept but on yours I see one but not the other. The scale seems off a bit in that area. Other than that, looks good man!
So after spending friday and saturday getting drunk and mending my hangover, I've finally pulled myself together and started working on my high poly parts. Starting out with the dome on the main building.
So this is where i stand at the moment, just before pulling it inside zbrush to mess it up and make it fit the destroyed version in the concept.
As always criticism is more then welcome!
Image from 1945 showing the old structure. It looks very fancy and modernly artsy today, so beware of that if you wanna hunt for reference.
Looking good though, mate!
Thanks
looks good so far man keep it up
As for modelling tehcniques, I can do a little video later on
Someone asked for some coverage on how I did different parts of the model, so I decided to throw around a 15 min video that explains some of the techniques.
