Photoshop Brushes help

So yeah recently I have started having problems with my photo shop brushes. Where the brushes look very poor and messy and not smooth. So here is an image of what I am talking about. any help would be greatly appreciated =D.

Try to change the brush mode to "normal" (you'll find it next to the opacity setting of the brush under the menu bar). From your screenshot it looks like you have it set to "dissolve".
