Hey guys, I want to make condensation appear on the camera and drip down for a few seconds. Kinda like in the picture. Any ideas on how to do it? My company is using our own engine.
surely it depends on what your engine is capable of? although i guess you could get someone to code something in perhaps.
my guess would be to use some sort of triggered post process effect that just applies a material for a few seconds. if you have something similar to a udk panner node then you should be able to make it animated. i seem to remember there's something similar in crysis when you get out of the water - could look to see how they did that.
If you can overlay images onto the camera you could get a nice transition by breaking up the effect into layers. First fast in a soft 'fog' and maybe some blurring - then fade in the actual droplets as another layer. Or as two layers, smaller droplets first then larger. As for animating them to run down the screen... no idea! can only speculate!
Maybe a plane with an animated (or panning) shader right in front of and linked to the camera? Make a nice normal map for the condensation effect and place a refract/distort effect in the shader.
