Could anyone here recommend a good cloth mouse pad that's no more then 12x10 inch? The one I've been using for the last few years is starting to get sort of worn out, but I'm not having much luck finding a replacement.
Im in the market for one as well, I got one of those cheapie IKEA desks and the paint is coming off the top where my mouse sits all the time so I'm needing to get a nice new one. Used to use a plastic cutting board worked well but not for the laser mice..
I have a Qpad. It's really nice and comfortable. Mouse moves along it great. Not sure if it was worth what they cost since I got it for free...but I like it.
It may depend on the type of optics yer mouse uses..
What kind of mouse are you using?
I got a R.A.T. 9 with the Phillips twin eye lazer.
They have fixed the z-tracking issue ( It's completely gone ).
However, The surface used plays a large part in the over all performance of the Phillips.
( I will lose x,y, tracking sometimes and it is harder to wake the mouse after sleeping ( wireless model ) )
I have found that mousing over a white surface will wake the mouse easily.
Also...
I have bought a $20 aluminum RocketFish Mat from Best Buy. Apart from the rubber feet falling easily,
The surfaces ( control and speed ) are rather nice. However the color is to dark resulting in the skipping/tracking issue.
I usually don't use mouse pads, but bought the RocketFish because
the feet of the mouse seems to be wearing away alarmingly quick!
I hear Razer users have the same issue ( Unlike Razer, Saitek are not selling replacement feet yet )
I decided to go for a white mat like the Razer Destructor:
was about to order the razer scarab ( as the destructor is being discontinued ) when I noticed I was being charged a tax
for an online order?
Has a new law been passed recently in the US?
Otherwise I'll pass. ( hard enuff swallowing the 39 dollar price tag for a mouse pad )
I'm using a mx518 mouse, I'll probably never use anything else till the day they stop making them...then again I'd probably stock up on them at that point so I still never have to switch
You stick it on the desk and you can unstick it any time and it will always stay in place, if your desk is messy, simple cloth is enough to wipe off anything from it, the material is really nice too.
I was a big fan of this, my only issue was the surface material on the control side. After a while, it will degrade and the surface becomes uneven. Same with that Razer pad.

I have only found the grey models on sale however? And may just go for that instead.
Will let u know if I have any luck.
Got this nice thick rubber/cloth one at home. Very comfy
But I can't stand non-cloth mouse mats.
I use the QCK, but the thinner one. Awesome surface, smooth on the top, grippy on the bottom!

claydough: Some states require you to pay taxes on online purchases, others don't, but their's no federal law in place. Amazon is great for this: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/news/2011/01/hell-no-we-wont-go-out-of-our-way-to-collect-sales-taxes.ars
Tyler: I took a look at DeviantArt, but I don't get how your supposed to tell anything like dimension, material, etc.
