I figured it was about time I created a sketchbook to improve in multiple areas and post some stuff I'm working on. I plan on updating about every week.
To start off my sketchbook, some hand-painted textures.
I find that when I paint stuff I have a hard time getting things to look like the material they are supposed to be, even when using reference. So it's something I really need to work on.
Just a concept I'm working on to try and get a better feel for lighting, since I'm kind of shoddy at that too. Anatomy/Posing practice never hurts too!
Comments and Critiques are always appreciated.

Good job, keep it up.
Yeah working cleaner is also something that I also need to work on. Less scribbles more actual shapes!
Thankfully I know to use soft brushes in moderation, It never looks good when you use them for the entire piece, in my experience anyway.
Must keep making art!
Felt like posting an update of this still is not quite done but I like how it is turning out so far. I'm hoping to get it done soon so I can focus some of my efforts back on 3d.
EDIT: Finished version is here
Some progress so far
Here's the old (very VERY old) concept I did of it a long time ago which is more for a point of reference in case people where interested in what it's kind of supposed to look like.
Something a little fun and silly to distract me from scanning in real sketches.
A quick concept portrait I did for a character I'm working on. Trying to base everything around a single color (the color of the hair mostly)
Raising my sketchbook from the dead a bit with some fanart I've been working on at an attempt to improve my concepting skills a bit. this was planned to be a concept for a sculpt I was going to work on before the ArenaNet art test came along, and now I think I'm Guild Wars'd out a bit.
Crit wise i'd expect to see some bolder definition of forms and planes in your paintings -- the shadows are all a bit pillowy and nondescript.
Worked on a quick anatomy study, also trying to work on lighting a bit.
Trying to clear out my WIP folder before the end of the year, I has a lot of portraits laying around so I figured I'd compile them all into a collage sort of thing. I tried to give every one a different color/lighting scheme and I obviously spent some more time on some of them, but as an exercise I'm just happy to get stuff out of the way.
Trying to finish a sculpt I started quite some time ago, right now the dreads are giving me the biggest problem, although there are other areas that still need some work.
A few things I had sitting around, I figured I should just put them up here, it's kind of nice to draw something other than characters every once in a while. Sadly I'm not going to be finishing my bust anytime soon, other projects are taking priority, someday I will.
A quick 10min sketch I did the other night based off of an image I really liked
Trying to stay loose get forms down quickly.
Something I've been working on in between projects
Wanted to do something hand painted for fun, it was a good refresher
Zbrush doodle for the night
Hand studies, trying to destroy my artistic weaknesses. As an added challenge I didn’t pick colors from the photos in order to train my eye more for anatomy and color
Self-portrait study
I've been doing some studies and messing with some concepts, I'm hoping to mess with some of them a bit more and possibly even model them in the future.
For the concepts I'm trying to stick to some themes, flavors from this week consist of tech/robots, post apocalyptic/cyber punk and a bit of fantasy.
This is one of the nicest low poly's you've posted. You've got some good color variation in the skin, but you've gone back to yellow + black + white for your shading on the hair. Try to work in color variation as observed from photos and real life into all your materials.
Also the face seems a bit lacking in volume. I'd probably use a slightly darker tone to send back the sides of the face a bit, so you can define the planes of the front and cheeks against it, but at the same time, you should probably use an overall softer touch, as the few areas you do have contrast are a bit too sharp and take away femininity.
but nice work. :-) I like
also enjoying your studies, inspiring me to do studies myself
This is a small portion of art for a game I have been working on called Shades of Sanity which is currently on Kickstarter
Some characters concepts for the game
A bit out of my element when it comes to environments, but gave it a shot anyway.
Though making creepy, twisted things is rather fun.
This is a model for Janet that I'm currently working on, it's a refresh of the model I did for her a little over a year ago
For comparision:
Hope you guys enjoy!
A zbrush blockout of a small project I'm working on.
Working on some material studies, critiques welcome.
Quick study of face planes, finding out I have trouble with some shapes like the eyelids.
