Hi all, this is my first post here and after hearing so many good things about this place I've decided to post some screenshots of the level I'm building in UDK. I'm building it foremost as an exercise in Level design, but also as training on environment creation. I'm hoping for a Half Life-esque future style. It's still very early and most of my time has gone to creating breakable glass, but here are some pictures:
It's a little early to say much. From an environment artist perspective, I hope you plan to add a lot to the level to make it visually interesting and a lot less repetitive than it is now. I like how you have breakable glass, I hope that it looks awesome.
Yeah I realize you might not be able to get anything out of the pictures yet. I intend to add a lot of props, pillars, ceiling beams and more to break everything up.
Uhm, I have a weird problem in UDK with lightmass, hoping someone can help me out.
As you can see the windows are completely square, yet I get rounded shadows for some reason. Both the floor and the walls have a seperate UV-set for the lightmass. Anyone know what is causing this? Thanks
It looks like your resolution for those areas are too low, and the modulated lighting is attempting to fix the jagged edges. You can use Lightmass texure size override to double to the map resolution, that might help out a bit.
Add some emissive lighting boost as well, the interior walls are not getting any bounced light at all.
nice lightning. but maybe you could brake some more of roof so the shadow and light on the floor get a more intresting silluett than squares... a lot more props to! stuff hanging from the celing like terminals and such would be good.

Edit: Do yo have any concepts for this level?
I actually don't have a concept, maybe I should?
