God of War Environment - UDK

Hey guys, just starting in on a new environment here from the God of War universe. I got a sweet concept piece from their website and started blocking things in. The statues are still being sculpted and I will post progress on those when I've got some notable improvement to show. Lighting is placeholder of course, and the scene is still young, but let me know how things are going so far. Cheers everyone.

Your bridge could be a bit wider, and the archways could be a bit sharper, but it's a great start. Keep it up!

Give the chain supports some arc. The weight of those lanterns would cause the chains to sag at least a bit. I am liking the way this is coming out so far.

Hey guys, here's an update! I've got my two UV channels working, trying to feel out some lighting, and HOPEFULLY will have the normals finished by the end of the weekend... I also included an update on my statute. It's proving to be very difficult to make this look like stone. But I'm gonna keep pluggin away. Let me know what you guys are thinkin, thanks!

in regards to the statue.. it may be best to sculpt out some features first. the superaverageman model doesnt really have any key features to begin with, so beating up the model doesnt really make it look too stone like. if you had a pretty defined model and started to go over it with some of the Trim brushes to harden out some edges, THEN go along using layer/claytubes/gouge/mallet etc to "stone" it up.. then you may be a bit more on your way for that piece.

Alright guys, I'm getting down to it. Five days to GDC, and this has GOT to be done. I've kinda hit a wall right now in terms of where I want to go with finishing details, so any advice would really be awesome! And here are the renders from UDK. Thanks again for all the feedback guys!

nice blockout. a lot of your textures look either too big for the asset (like on that metal bracing on the box in the top right section of the screen) or like they're not specific to that asset. take the large chain in the back, it doesn't look like its texture is made for it, it looks like it has a generic metal material just applied to it. if you work on handpainting a few of those textures or just making them a little more specific to the asset i think this will look a lot better. good luck

Alright so I'm going in and optimizing a lot of my textures here, and I'm also crankin out a final pass on the particles. The fire will definitely be in my next post and I'm trying to break up a lot of the empty walls and large textured areas. Ralusek I think you're right on the money with the texture bit, I think that they really are not working with the pieces. I am really going in and fixing the details at this point. More to come!
