i have used a number of places over the years and every time the year i paid is up the rate sky rockets. Where is a good cheap place to host my site? Just finished a run with justhost and before that was dreamhost. Any ideas?
Wow, this is really going to come in handy. Thanks ZacD! Have you ever used these guys before?
I've been using them for almost 2 years.
To host using dropbox;
1) Add your html files to your dropbox public folder
2) Copy the public dropbox url to index.html
3) Paste it into your domain's redirection thingy using your domain manager (technically you can skip this step if you don't mind having your portfolio's URL look like http://dl.dropbox.com/u/#######/blabla.html)
Another disadvantage of doing this though apart from the html-only pages is that either the dropbox url shows up in the url bar when you visit your site, or you use masking and it shows "yourdoman.com" for every page, making it difficult for someone to link to a specific page on your site.
But if your site was simple and didn't have many pages in the first place then it's not much of a problem.
(also when people copy URL of images on your site, they'll get the dropbox url - not a big problem if the image itself has your info on it)
Another minor thing, dropbox websites don't show up in google searches.
All of these minor things combined made me rather continue using holeinthewallhosting, which by the way was originally only $10/year
holeinthewall sounds very good, I might switch to them. Thanks for that link ZacD.
I'm currently using weebly for my index page and dropbox for everything else. Weebly gives a easier to read free url than other alternatives like google and microsoft.

$20 a year (plus $10 for the domain)
+1 to that.
Or, dropbox for free hosting (but only supports .html pages, not .php)
how do i get dropbox to work as my webhost?
