I still have a long way to go before I plan to start going to school again. I am planning on doing digital media; however, the rout I wish to go is quick w/ minimal math and and language courses, preferably none at all.

are there any schools like this? I just want to be able to say i went to school at some point. any advice or suggestions are welcome.

Thanks!

Also I wouldn't say math and english are useless. All games have some creative writing involved. Mathematics is useful whenever you have to do anything technical.

I wasn't that great at math during highschool. But I've found that my maths knowledge has gotten much better since I use maths so much for my job.

Honestly, Gnomon sounds like the best choice from all those. Best bang for the buck, and a recognized name at least.

I'm at Gnomon and I love it here. And no you don't need a bachelors to work in 3D, I know plenty of people working that are self taught or have gone to a trade/technical school instead of a 4 year program.

4 years is a LONNNG time. Almost everyone I know who took a 4 year program found it excessively long. It's great for the first year... maybe 2. Then the last 2 years are really dragging along.

I took a one year class, landed a job right out of school. I was lucky as heck, but it's mainly because of Polycount University. School did nothing but teach me the basics of things. PC is the way to go. IMO.

Alot of people around here will tell you to drop school, and self-teach yourself. Use the money you'd spend on college to feed and house yourself.

This is probably the best advice you can give. I mean you can buy all the training you need, in the end all that matters is that demo reel and word of mouth, not that piece of paper.

Oh and having a good personality takes you far as well :).

English and Math are not useless unless you are doing the early childhood education.

Though, I'd completely agree with you if you were doing game development and design and you'd have to do an accounting course, or a financial analysis course or marketing course(though sounds legit but completely off), Economics, Ethics, Business Ethics (like the Professor was some ass HR in some game studio or software dev firm and had a good time teaching a dev team some manners and so decided to make that his side of expertise and make life miserable for everyone else).

I know its kinda bitter swallow to have Math and English but seriously. Later you will realize that you would have a better chance in terms of getting in the industry then not to have a Math or English credit. They also teach them at the lower level so you might want to check the levels of em.

If you do not wish to waste paying this small price for a greater good then AOD or VFS or any sort of private institute would be good for you.

I pray that you find the career you are truly looking for. :)

nope but i still would suggest doing illustration degree or something..while self learning on the side

it should give you a better core art training...more options if you decide later on to get out of the industry...and i bet the partys are better

I don't know how it all works in america, but in the UK you'd get all the student loans along with bursaries and grants along with a degree, whereas I don't know what you'd get to support yourself with gnomon.

Depends on your situation I guess. With having no aim or money, uni was the best bet for me. If you have an aim then perhaps teach yourself, if you have money then gnomon.

    VFS
No Math, No language, 1 year, (still some history and other stupid courses)
Crash course in Maya -> Animation/Modeling/Compositing-Vfx depending on your chosen discipline.

I see there are alot of mixed feelinggs about this which is good, sense I can get advice from both sides of the arguement. Im already fair at 2d and im begining to teach myslef 3d but the catch is im shipping for the military in the end of march so I will have 6 years to teach myself and get ahead of the game and the Air Force will pay my tuitions after im out so money wont be an issue.

Gnomon is seeming like the most apealing sense all im going for is the acknowlagement of getting tought (I should know what im doing pretty well by then). Im going to reaserch VSF and see what that is.

    thanks guys!

yes they are great but Gnomon does not provide a bachelors which the only turnoff. VFS is to short for me I want 4 years
Well a bachelors in game art or VFX isn't exactly worth much inside or outside the industry, without the portfolio/education to back it up. The average Gnomon student who applies themselves doesn't have much to worry about in the way of landing a job.

With that said if I had my pick VFS rocks.
