Bake vertex normal direction in maya

Okey, so i found this thread through the wiki.
I'm making a tree and the leafs and what no could need some normal modification to look good.

The script(s) is working and everything, but since i'm a maya guy i wondered if their was a way to do it in, wait for it, MAYA!
And for those that don't know about the script. It basically takes the normals from you object and "project" them on to a reference object. Changing your, in my case, leafs vertex normals.

Any ideas? Feels like it's not that hard :D
