Photoshop CS4 lag

Hej,im having an issue with my photoshop at home. The problem is the perfromance of photoshop,while programs like 3ds Max and z brush run like a dream, CS4 is incredibly slow,especially when i paint with my wacom tablet. I will paint a stroke and 2 seconds later it will appear,its so slow i can not effectively paint textures at home. Ive cleaned up my PC,i have a 2.53 dual core, 4 gigs of ram nvidia 9600 GT video card and it works too damn slow.

a colleague advised me to downgrade to Cs2 and that should sort the issue out,any thoughts?

You should try disabling GPU acceleration and/or updating your video card drivers.

old drivers + GPU acceleration = crappy performance.

For me, all issues where resolved when I upgraded to CS5. Runs like a dream, but for cs4, try to do what Cman2k said. I assume you have 11.0.1 since that should already have fixed allot of performance issues 11.0.0 had.

Are you using just any old brush? Cuz if you're using some kindof special brush with a lot of modifications on it, I don't think it matters what version of Photoshop you have, or what kind of pc . . . there's just gonna be lag :0

No,im using regular brushes,nothing too fancy about them;.
