think we could do with a submission thread, post a banner size image, a full shot of your piece and a link to your thread and whoever chooses what goes in can add it
Just wondering how I get my image up in the showcase banner, what are the rules of submission who decides whether the piece is worthy or not?
Earn it. That's what the others did.
No idea how it's chosen, maybe a blood letting ritual or as I like to imagine Adam writes our names on post-it notes and rolls naked over them, the one closest to his man bits is the winner.
I agree with r_fletch_r, no point having a submission thread either, would be more headaches than any benefit.
I'm sure Adam just chooses pieces that are impressive and clearly show the amount of work involved. Match the quality in the banners and you may be lucky to get picked.
One of the things I was wondering is if the criteria states you have to make the entire image yourself or if there were other artists involved would it still eligible? Can it be from a game or does it have to be a personal work. Also can it be a hi res render, or does it have to be game res? I'm surprised there's not more pieces in that forum.
Hah join the club malcolm Seems almost random to get in there or not, as many top quality images get skipped, and then once, every 5 or so full moons, an image makes it in there the first day it's online lol.
All I'm aware of are some loose guidelines... it should be either some amazing art that shows style/execution/design that people can learn from, or it should be a regular poster who has shown vast improvement over time, or else it should be a hot topic that's art-related (like a Dominance War).
But as with most volunteer work I think it just comes down to an editor's time and personal interest. I for one haven't posted a news item in ages, too many other things are taking my focus and interest these days. The wiki is a fav of mine, so I put my extra time there. Other editors put it into the news, or into the forums, or into backend tasks (that aren't so visible, but still very essential).
I think it wouldn't hurt to post some links to extraordinary posts you come across, including stuff you've done yourself, whatever you think rocks really hard...
I think the biggest thing is someone remembering to yell 'Banner! Banner!' in a thread when someone posts work. Lots of banner quality work comes and goes, we just forget to kick up enough fuss about it!
That's a sub-d cage in wireframe over the subdivided model.
Aha /facepalm! I guess I just immediately think it's a normal mapped asset whenever I see a wireframe over something. I was thinking 'how the hell did he get that mesh to look so high res'!
Sorry I'm not that magical, Eric's got it, that's how I show my sub d modeling since who cares about the subdivided wireframe it's all about the level 0.
And not to get off topic here but thanks a lot Eric for putting so much effort into the wiki, the normal map section alone is invaluable to junior and senior modelers and helped me out quite a bit in the last couple months.

sillyness aside i think its just a case of posting a great WIP/Final thread.

Is this some sort of ninja normal bake?
That sounds like a joke question but it's not
