There's a active thread right now about potential problems with GeForce 4XX and 5XX cards and various 3D apps. I'm not surprised Maya is having "issues", though I hope you can sort it out somehow...
You should be able to export your vertex colors to UDK via the .ASE format (for static meshes) using the ActorX plugin for Maya.

is there a setting that you need to change to include the vertex colours in actorx? i've exported and imported as normal but i'm not getting the vertex colours in udk.
