I'm a long time Max user who is trying to learn Maya 2010 for my new job. This has been bugging me for the past 8 hours. Why the hell can't I extrude two edges with the vertices already welded? I have to go back and weld every time! My geometry is leaking all over because of problems like this. It's not just with edges too. Sometimes it even happens with a face extrusion.

I just tried the same thing in Max to make sure I wasn't going crazy. What gives?

Is there a way to check for unwelded verts inside Maya? Max had the "STL Check" Modifier that could do that. I just want to make sure my mesh is water tight again.
