Normals and rotation

Never seemed to have this issue before or maybe I just never noticed it. I have a simple 8 sided hose that I want to slap normal map on so I get a little more interest out of it. It looks fine when the hose is running vertically but when it bends horizontally the normal map becomes so slight and it just looks like crap. Since the high poly ridges that I used to generate the normals were running vertically, I thought that if I re rendered a separate normal map with the ridges running horizontally that I could blend from one end of the hose being vertical into the other end laying on the ridges that were running horizontal. It didn't fix the issue. Here are some pics. Thanks in advance guys.
