Union Project

Hello,
This is 3dhead again and I am in need of a critic. The critic needed is on the anatomy of my centaur.

I will post stretches soon, but the concept I am working on plays on the zodiacs. The sagittarius, which is displayed on the attached files, will be complained by an feminine, or child-like zodiac sign. This other character or characters will ride on the back of the sagittarius. I was thinking Virgo, but air and fire play best together, so I may got with the Gemini twins. Male sexed children, with ying yang personalities (Gemini is a masculine sign).

It will be a pose shot with a stand. At the moment, I'm thinking of a charging action. Besides the centaur, the rest will be modeled to pose.

Looking pretty cool, I really like the face on the high poly, lots of style =)

    Crits:
The muscles seem a little blobby and are not really flowing and transitioning all that well. You have some weird breaks in places and I'm not sure why? Maybe its unwrapped a little funky?

The skin looks vac-u-sealed onto muscles a little bit of fat and better transitions would help.

[rant about modern body builders as ref]

Most of the time you only get super defined vac-u-sealed definition if you're a modern body builders who is dehydrated and is at his/her weakest point (up on stage), all oiled up, flexing for all they're worth. They also train for bulk not strength. It was really since roids and freak special "body builder diets" hit the scene that super defined, crazy ass mutants started showing up. Which is something to keep in mind when searching for ref and doing characters. The modern super defined look might not be all that accurate...

In my book, no one got the fat, skin and muscles right like Frank Frazetta... I suggest that people look to "muscle men" before the 80's if they want to do more realistic fantasy characters. Of course if the style of the game is hulking mutants about to pass out I guess that's what you have to do...

uhh yea what the hell was I talking about...

Oh yea... The long abs that transition into the horse torso seem odd, maybe its the color break that makes it stand out.

Man, I know it's been a long time since I've posted something ><
Busy with work, but now I am finally getting back to my personal art!
Yes, I am still working on the Union Project :( Got back on it this month.
(Where are a few others I'm working on too)

Got the zbrush sculpted out. Re-topologizing right now. Then I'm going to
add hand-painted textures in BodyPaint, when remaining alpha pieces.

The muscles are to lumpy. Muscles flow into and over top each other, and where they overlap is where you get definition. The back leg is to small, horses have huge powerful back legs.
