I think he looks a bit more like Charlie Sheen than Nathan Fillion. But those two look quite alike, so you're still very close.
Sheen has that very stern brow, with the noticable || angry wrinkles all the time, whereas Nathan only has very slight, short /\ wrinkles - and they're not visible in his neutral look. Your sculpt isnt pissed off enough to have those wrinkles. Similarly, his eyebrows are too much in a V-shape, they should be more horizontal.
The nose, I think, needs the most work. The nose of Fillion is wider than Sheen's, but yours is overly wide. And it's too angular and missing some knobbly bits just above the nostrils.
Malcolm also has a more noticable adams apple, a less sharp chin, and the back/side/bottom corner of his jaws is up a bit higher. And some larger shapes: the face should taper just a wee \/ and the neck is very thick.
Thanks for the comments, guys! Of course, this is a rough sculpting, and I'll keep working with it.
I've tried to catch a whole face look, and I think, I'm pretty close.
I like what you have going so far. I will keep an eye on this one as a huge fan of the series. The only crit I have at the moment is Mal feels very...well gumbey like. I know he isn't a buff character, but there is something that to me is currently reading a bit, well lets go with unstructured.
looking at the first pic I can find, http://www.filmjackets.com/FEATURES/IMAGES/Feature_Serenity-big.jpg
his paints go much higher up his waist than what you have depicted.
and his upper eyelid/brow arcs a bit, while yours look straight.
everything else is looking really good.
keep it up
Yeah looks good. A few things though:
-suspenders feel too mechanical, they're very straight and shit
-hair needs a lot more love, but maybe you just haven't gotten to it yet
-head looks ever so slightly small
You planning on doing a low? or at least some colors?
Thanks for the comments, Snader. Indeed, I missed suspenders, and will work with it. Hair is just a placeholder, Mal is too cool to be bald.
You're sure about head size?
And ofcourse I plan to proceed with lowpoly/texture.
Kind of. I'm not sure if it's the head being too small or the body being too stretched. But the proportions definitely look off a bit. I think it should be a bit more like this:
boots are still lookin a bit funky man, the sole is super thick, and the transition from sole to heel is funky. check out some more ref and revisit it for sure. I see that you are doing the Serenity Mal as opposed to the show version...good choice the show version's suspenderes always bothered me.
also, careful with the cloth in the shirt, you seem to be getting caught up in fine detail and it is making it hard to read and a bit noisy.
Odium: i got it, the image of mal that says "live long and prosper" ~han solo, probably would have been more effective haha

This is 'Serenity' version of Mal, not the 'Firefly'.

Super Happy Cow, I wont screw up this one, otherwise I'm about to flow through the engine:)
Fixed proportions. Starting to add details. DWV is coming, so I should finish it fast.

Plus you may wanna give him his gun and stick him in a pose to make it feel more natural:

Makes him look a bit more stocky and bulky.
Don't troll his work, the model is starting to look great and its obvious that he wants to add a bit of his own style to it.

Snader, I'll keep it in mind, thanks. Due the high number of the subltools, it will be hard to fix smoothly.
woogity, yep, sole is a bit thick, but no too "super" as you mean. I'll show references, which I used, when I'll come back home.
Sole indeed is thick.
