Here is my hipoly versions of modern russian pistol known as mp-433 "Gratch" and ww2 russian Nagant revolver 1937. Need some crits on it. Any suggestions on how to improve models will be very helpful.
Looking pretty good, but try not to render on a black background, it's hard to make out the shape of the gun. Try a neutral gray background instead, much easier to read the models then.
Can we get a render of the weapon without the diffuse? I'm curious to see how the bake/smoothing came out. Hard to tell. Maybe use a gradient background for the renders too.
I think the photosourced textures are ruining this piece. If that last render is your normal map on the low poly then you have a Great base to work from. Try only using photos as a reference for the textures because right now too much of the lighting information from the photos is coming through.
I thinks in some places using photosource is okay if it isn't all the texture is made of and is used lightly and more as texture than full on diffuse. Might also wanna look out for those seams :P
timwiese, i used photosourced textures on edges to get realistic scrathes or color and in some other places i didnt edit the light on it becouse it was appropriate.
Most part of texture are hand painted and the reason why you thought it was photosoured, is that i draw light and shadow information on texture.
I did that to get right tone on whole model. The game like Arma 2 cant really get realistic tone on model, so i thought that its better to draw some low visible lights and shadows to get nice tone.
But still, for most other advanced games this trick will work not so good, i totally agree on that.
Sparkwire, use this site http://foto.mail.ru/mail/photoshooter/109 , on all photos there is MVD version of mp-443, i modeled army version.
There is some difference between them, so be carefull what you are modelling.

No photosourced textures used here.
