Mudbox: constant split and overlapping faces (and troubles smoothing)

Hello.. Mudbox is starting to get me down

I keep getting these splits and overlaps around some vertexes as though there are overlapping vertexes with different attached faces...

Please help me, I'm about this give up, I can't find a solution I'm not having a lot of luck. I'm also trying to find a tutorial that can help me smooth surfaces because I'm getting these bumps that refuse to leave unless I reckon the surrounding shapes, but that should pass once I continue subdividing right?

and I'd rather be out celebrating and relaxing now that there's not more school but instead I'm stuck here trying to get this done.

Usually when this happens it's either because of a topology setup that mud doesnt like (it usually pops up a warning preventing you from going any further, by I guess sometimes not ...), or because of too many complex layers stacked on top of each other.

Its a good time to simply export your mesh out and retopo everything clean in topogun or any other retopo app. It shouldnt take too long and you'll be ready to keep on sculpting on a much cleaner mesh in no time.

there are no warnings and I'm not familiar with 'retopo'

The model is supposed to be a doom 3 character, would it still work?

the holes in your mesh look like you haven't welded your vertices at that position or you have a hole in your mesh. happens sometimes when you cut polygons. post a picture of your base mesh and triangulate before, then it should be easy to see.

I know, I always check to make sure there are no overlapping verts that need welding or fixing. I think turning on smoothing groups reveals any rats nest ? and I didn't get any rats nest errors.

i use maya. sometimes when i bridge the mesh i sometimes get a hole, even if on both sides vertices are merged. nasty thing and hard to see. can you upload that part of your mesh and i can check. i'm pretty sure your mesh is corrupt.

mesh looks fine. in mudbox everything looks good. where on your mesh do you get those problems?

Everywhere, it happens every time I it happens when ever i make a significant shaping in the object.. thing is it sometimes fixes itself when I go up and down the subdivisions which makes me wonder whether it's because of my ATI card...

the mesh is fine... thats "only" a graphics error...

when you export the scuplted mesh with the errors into your 3d app, do see the same faults?
