Hey all!
Today our new course started, which means that every week we'll get a new assignment to create in a few days.
I'll use this thread as some sort of a sketchbook during the course.
This week we got asked to create a low poly object. 500 tris and 128x128 Diffuse.
Never worked with these kinds of specs, so I'm really looking forward to start working on it!
Here's a quick concept I made just now.
I'm not a great concept artist, but I'm pretty sure I can get a good 3D model from it, even though it doesn't have depth.
Cheers!

Also the rotating sprocket doesn't make sense, what is that for?
Haha, I definate agree about the handle!
The sprockets are simply flare. I pay no attention to functionality this time. All I want is a really cartoony and stylized sword ala Blizzard or something. ^^
I would definitely try and play with the proportions a bit more. Pump out a few more shapes and see if you can get any other really interesting silhouettes.
Here are some of their own assets as an example:
Keep it going, man!

Will definately keep working on the shapes!
Cheers!
What do you think?
Gonna have to go with this:
I understand what you mean, and I agree completely!
And I really don't hope I look like a total douche for not taking all you guys' advices into account..
I'm just really panicing here, hoping that I will make it to the deadline!
I am listening to what you have to say though!
Woo!
128x128 Diffuse.
What school are you attending?
Thanks for the feedback!
I go to The Game Assembly. ^^
128x128 Diffuse.
It's already done, so unfortunately I can't really do anything with possible feedback until my next project.
But please, feel free to crit away!
The assignment was to create a First Person weapon under 3'000 triangles, 1024x1024 Diffuse, Spec and Normal map.
We had 4 days to complete it.
There are some areas that I know lack some love, but I decided to focus mainly on the areas that are eye catching, seeing as I really stressed this out.
Oh, and also! I know that wood isn't NEARLY as shiny as it is on my crossbow. I just decided to crank up the spec on it to make it look cool. And personally I think it does. ^^
Hope you like it!
And string looks kind of strange It doesn't resemble a rope at all, it should be wrapped around more tightly.
1st post, yay
We got a concept made by our teacher (shown in bottom of picture) and from that we had to make a game-ready model.
We were free to twiest it into our own style and liking, or even make a new concept based on his concept.
I took a lot of inspiration from Tank Girl when making this, and I'm pretty happy with it. I could have worked more on the texturing, but unfortunately time isn't something we have a lot of here at The Game Assembly. ^^
Here we go:
Hope you like it!
I hear the Game Assembly is a good school! Went to Playground Squad myself if you´ve heard of it.
Keep up the good work, look forward to see more stuff!
Yeah, The Game Assembly is a great school if you ask me. I went to School of Future Entertainment (SOFE) before, and TGA is way better. Learning new stuff everyday.
It's for a school class, where we got a task to turn an animal into a character, and I chose a japanese (?) rhino bug.
Feel free to crit all you want! I wanna learn!
Cheers!

Thank you very much for linking that thread! I'm sure it'll come in handy in the future, but the assignment to create the weapon ended a long time ago, so there's not much I can do about it. I got a good grade on it though. ^^
Cheers!
We got an assignment to texture the Goblin MoP shared here: http://www.polycount.com/forum/showthread.php?t=69806
And this is what I have so far:
Not done yet, but I'm almost there I think.
Hit me with some crits if you want!
