I'm kinda glad we (UK) didnt get it. We already can't afford the olympics.

Plus I hate to think what wonderful design we'd come up with for logo's and characters. The Olympic ones are just laughable, yet cost gazillions to develop.

By comparison, Russia is only putting up 3-4 billion

Russia I can kind of understand, but Qatar with a population of around 2 million!? WTF!!! Just goes to show FIFA is trying to redevelop the world with some sort of agenda, or taking lots of money through sponsorship deals, *cough* oil money. UEFA should just tell FIFA to fuck off and be done with it, there is no proportional representation whatsoever anyway.

i think the qatar choice wassn't wasn't just made for economic reasons. i think the fifa felt like they could bring the western and the arabic world closer together with this event, acting as a political ambassador. 12 years from now may be a good timing for this, too.
