Yeees, it is. I am unsure on this one :0 it looks very impressive visually, not sure I like the character design though
When I first saw the lizard character, I immediately thought of the illustrations Ralph Steadman did for Hunter S. Thompson (a couple of examples can be seen here and here), which is unfortunate because his frantic, insane style is impossible to transpose into 3D. The quality looks top notch, but no matter how good a job ILM does, it's going to fall short of Steadman's illustrations.
The film has several obvious homages to Thompson, I'm sure due to Depp's involvement. Depp played HST (a.k.a. Raoul Duke) in the film adaptation of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, and apparently became close friends with Thompson in the early 90s. Reptiles were a bit of a theme when Thompson would right about tripping on acid, and the character is even wearing one of his signature Hawaiian shirts. There's also the desert setting and the human character toward the end of the trailer also resembles HST.
I'm not sure how I feel about this. The visuals look great, and the idea of a HST/Ralph Steadman-inspired animated film sounds cool... but a Nickelodeon produced children's movie based on that seems almost sacrilegious. Oh well, I'm sure I'll see it anyway, and just try to enjoy it for what it is.
saw it last weekend, i expected awesome vfx since ilm made it and that's exactly what i got
But the story and overall film was also very enjoyable, some of the references were very funny.
Pretty unique full 3d animation film imo
Saw it last weekend with my niece and nephew. I really liked it, but when the ref to Fear and Loathing came up, and I turned to my niece, I realized "oh yeah, she's got no idea what the fuck that is". Guess that was for the parents in the audience.
The art in it really blew me away. Stylized realism? The skanky cat dude was one of my favorites. I was really impressed with this movie
They're only showing it in it's dubbed form over here... which makes me sad. Since it's animation they're treating it like a kids movie.
So I won't be watching this soon, dubbing is a mortal sin.
Obviously it's a game aimed towards kids (don't think many people on this forum are going to pick it up), but it's getting decent reviews for a movie tie in (currently 71%+ on metacritic).
That's cool, Jacque! My niece was pretty interested in the game, I thought it looked great, but was a little worried it would suck so I never got it. I just might pick it up now.

It's a very quirky and funny game, that I got to do Lead Character Duties for.
I was listening to the Rebel FM podcast, and they mentioned your game. They talked about it quite well, calling it a great platformer. After looking at that video, I will have to pick it up to try.

I'm guessing these guys did the work. (not guessing it says that they did on their Wikipedia page, ahaha)
