You don't need to know the first game's story, though some of the characters carry over from the first game. Just read a plot summary or something if you need; it's really not important.
I never really got into this, I had bought the collection multiple years back. I've played Planescape: Torment quite far, loving it. Love Fallout 1, 2 + the rest. Still this engine in BG2 somehow kills the feel for me. Not the mention the fact I know if I get into this, it's a huge time-sinkhole.
Yeah classic this. One of my most favourite games ever. I love the style of the graphics and art. The voice acting and general character of the villain is fantastic.
Wish they made more games like this instead of the Neverwinter Nights crap. Tempted to play through it again but there's too many other things I want to play.
My favourite Bioware game is finally on GoG? Count me the hell in.
I was a dumb kid when it was first released, so I decided to play on a copy borrowed from my friend rather than buy it for myself. Then, once I was slightly richer than piss-poor, the bloody game was nowhere to be found.
I should probably buy more than one copy though; when I think of the past ten years and all those hours I sunk in the game 10$ seems too cheap.
Played it, finished it, loved it. To my knowledge, BGII was the only game that my sister ever played through to the end. And I think she did that more than once! I can't ever give this game enough praise.

I've never played the first Baldur's Gate.
Should I buy this?
Is Polycount awesome? ;p

edit: They do! Guh! No. Must not buy. Not enough time.
Oh, and yes, I bought it again.
DOES A WILD BEAR SHIT IN THE WOODS SON?
for clarification purposes: yes, buy it and play the hell out of it.
