Game Artist (Codename)

Codename is an independent game label. As such, Codename supports and nurtures independent game designers and provides a development environment that excels at delivering interesting, unique games. Codename provides a space for experimentation, where the label’s small-teams and individuals explore their ideas about game design.

Title: Game Artist
Status: Exempt
Report to: Production Manager

Job Summary
Answering to directly to the Production Manager, the Codename Game Artist will provide art support to both our internal and external development teams. The Game Artist will work on several projects throughout the year, often simultaneously, creating and animating 2D and 3D game assets and generating concept art as needed. The Game Artist will also be involved in generating initial concept art and potentially art direction for new games, or games that are at the pitch stage.

Duties and Responsibilities

· This position requires extensive knowledge of Maya, Flash, and Photoshop.
· The position requires creative flexibility, both in art style and in tools/platforms used.
· In alignment with the extraordinary needs of an independent game development label, the candidate will need to be self-directed and a strong multi-tasker.
· In support of the creative content being produced by Codename, the candidate will work with multiple development teams, both internal and external, often simultaneously.
· To the degree necessary and appropriate, provide support and participate in the establishment of content pipeline for external projects.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

This position requires a breadth of skills and abilities including:
· Maya expertise.
· Flash animation expertise. Scripting a bonus but absolutely not required.
· Drawing capabilities, especially concept sketches and full-color concept art.
· Experience, skill, and ease working within small teams.
· Ability to handle content pipeline.
· Ability to multitask, keeping several balls in the air at the same time.
· Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
· Ability to establish priorities, work independently, and proceed with objectives without supervision.
· A passion for awesome games and innovative content.

Credentials and Experience

• 1 –2 years of related experience
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related field.
