Fun project i've been doing for a few months in my spare time. I worked more on it then i had anticipated, but still didn't get as far as I wanted due to time constraints and shit happening.
I tried to make it not just another vehicle by itself, hence the scene in UDK. All realtime.

This project definitely represents the best of my abilities (not that optimized though), so if anybody out there knows of a cool job that would fit my skills

Also. New banner material. to much of the same old up there.
haidda: the sun is a lensflare (custom) combined with lightshafts on a Dominant Directional lights. Oh and the ship already has a subtle fresnel I'll look into a video, animating camera's and such is kinda annoying in UDK.
Also for the love of god put this guy finally in the banner!
O. Must play around the lensflare stuff. For one of the levels we're making I just reverse did what epic has and implemented some of my own stuff. I hate animating camera's though this really needs one :poly142:
bounch: yeah man, a lot of stuff is there, I've even done some weapon effects already. I should find a coder to make some simple gameplay demo with it (or try it myself ). The animations on the ship look really cool, the airbrakes and flaps all move, it even has thrust vectoring.
Yeah I know - sci-fi design is more about looking cool than actual functionality. :-)
Rapante - yeah I agree man. That Wipeout Font I used for it was kinda dissapointing, no lowercase, no numbers, etc.. I should fix it up myself. Just didn't feel like messing with fonts too much.
Conor - hehe, agreed. It's really no Zero-G fighter if you look at the aerodynamics and everything, it doesn't even have directional thrusters. I just thought the name sounded cool together with dasnewten's "GZ81" designation I also really tried to make it look believable by using jetfighters as reference next to the Lego design.
Jeremy, I did a silly little paintover of the lego, painting away the stubs and sort of filing in a few gaps. Strayed from it a lot once I started doing the nose area, the lego design didn't really work there.
Anyway, I really want to try and do more because of the feedback i get here, a little cutscene "introducing" the ship, like the Gradius II intro. Hmm, if only I could multiply my time
Thank you - it's a been a late night feast for my eyes.)
Or do you mean lightingwise? I was thinking the red light might be a bit too strong. And maybe the spec could be stronger also...
Lighting: I also think its because your ship is mostly backlit in both those frames. While that composition, with the star in the background, looks neat, it services the entire piece rather than helping to showcase your model. You could flip the camera around, show the lit side, and have colorful nebulae in the background to give you the same compositional support you get now w/ the star & planet.
could be used for sub g gravity like small atmosphered moons perhaps artificial atmospheres etc which maybe less dense etc...
who cares not me... on the lighting front scoobs has got a point... perhaps some aviation style wing lights (turned off in combat) might help illuminate the matter... excuse my poor scribblings on your awsome images
I think it's coloring a bit too red in that one.
I will have to try the suggestions from your paintover though, Shep!
