Sketchbook: SadamHu

sketchbook up here on this fine site. Here I have an anatomy study.
Tell me what you think works on her and what doesn't. I'm not sure
how to have my images show up other than thumbnails.

Sorry I've placed this thread in the wrong category. Could a mod
please shift this to the sketchbook section? Thanks in advance.

Hey SadamHu, welcome to Polycount :)

There is a special thread for sketchbooks, which you can find here, http://www.polycount.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=53

Also, to display images in your post, host them from another site, such as www.dropbox.com, and then use the insert image button to paste the url into the post.

As for your work, I think the model looks pretty nice. I'm not really a character artist, or I'd offer more critique. Looking forward to seeing more work!

Thanks very much for the help and I'm glad that you like her.
I have an idea for this girl. Maybe shes a Mummy! lol...
So I worked on this yesterday and today. It's also designed
to collapse. I should get a picture of that on here too...

Just made the baby. I'm considering not to have him in there.
Maybe he's asleep and shes trying to get the straps out of the way
so she can place him in there.

He's kinda creepy :P He looks like a very a small five year. What's the age you'r aiming at? Really nice sculpted otherwise!

really nice work! the baby basemesh i great :D

sltrOlsson - Yeah he does look creepy. I found the trickiest part about
sculpting a baby was to make him look like a baby (hehe). Seriously though,
I went through a few iterations until I got this one. They kept coming out
looking like 12 - 13 year olds. Here I'm trying to aim for a 2 year old. I
think when I have clothing on him he will look like it. But your right he
does look like a 5 year old. I also think that the reason that he looks
creepy is because the relaxed state of his face is more a kin to an adult.
Thanks for pointing that out, I appreciate your feedback.

    SimonT - Thanks very much

Here we have a mobile phone that the mother is going to be using. I loosely
modeled it off a Pantech tx215c. It's not meant to be a perfect replica, just
to be a recognizable mobile phone.

Haha, i can imagine sculpting a baby is not that easy. I think you need to lower the crouch a bit. He has a bit to much of an adult body atm.
  • SadamHu
Here I have put all the elements together. I still have to work some bits
to fit it together a bit more. There are quite a few places where things
are inter penetrating. Just need to work a little more on the clothing.

This is really outstanding stuff! The baby still looks too old though, a baby's head on a 4 year olds body.

    awesome progress.. love everything there.
  • Sean VanGorder
Haha, I really like this. Very different from what you usually see.

I agree that the baby looks a little off though.

The baby looks way too slim in my opinion. They tend to look more like Michelin man before they get taller. But then again, I don't know the age of the baby :P

Make the legs, Torso and arms shorter, individually, until it looks right to you. Also Michelin man :P everything else looks amazing :)

reposition the arms maybe? around her neck maybe, just a suggestion cause the baby looks more like a doll to me ^^
  • SadamHu
Jungsik - Thanks very much. I'll have to rework that bubba.
fearian - Thank you. Your right, 4 year old isn't the target age. hehe.
blitz - Thank you. I appreciate it.
Sean_EG - I'm glad you like it. It is a little different.
Xendance - Your right, and I'll be doing exactly what you mentioned.
Because babies that are 2 are supposed to be little michelin men.
Skamberin - I'll also do what you suggest, compress, compress and compress lol!

I rushed that baby. Because all the elements were posed with proxies.
I just couldn't wait around any longer and threw it instead of placed it
together. In the meantime (while I do some tidy up time) tell me what you
    think of this character.

I've moved the thread as requested.

    Nice work in here! :)

wow, outstanding models. I like the texturework on the first image you've posted here. Very nice work. I envy you for your skills!
  • SadamHu
    Mop - Thanks and thanks.
Zet - Thanks very much. Just have something in mind and get it.

I have edited the baby here. Now he shouldn't look too much like a 4 year old
with a 2 year old head. lol. I also place his left hand on her right shoulder
Thanks very much for your feedback guys!

Yeah! The baby is really great now! One thought, the baby feels a bit light considering her pose. Maybe it's just me? I feel that she needs some more weight in here front of the pose.

    Looking forward for an update!
  • SadamHu
Thank you for your help sltrOlsson. I will get back to it. I was trying to
do a render of this in Maya and working with displacement maps screwed
my brain over. I uv'ed everything ready to go and it just kept getting a
result that made them look like they had been attacked by killer bees (all
bloated and puffy!). So I've taken a break from that one for a bit. I'll
come back to it and rework the clothing because it lacks folds and I'll and
more weight to her pose like you mentioned.

Heres a WIP of an anatomy exercise of the male form. After doing a female
its quite a bit different, in that forms are no longer soft and sleek. Good
    fun though!
