Hi! A quick normal mapping question! I'm still feel new to 3D modeling, so I apologize for any noobishness.
Long story short; modeled a space ship, playing around with diffuse, normal and space maps and how to make them. Normal map created in Photoshop using nDo. Testing out the Normals in 3DS and here's my issue! Standard material looks a little sucky compared to the Xoliul shader. I'd like to do some fancy renders with this model, and I'd love it to have the same quality Xoliul is showing!
Is there anything I'm doing wrong, missing, or could improve upon? Any help would be greatly appreciated from the bottom of my arteries and organs!!

Also, turn on hardware lighting and hardware shading + maps.
The hardware lighting can be found in the settings on the upper left part of the viewport. The hardware shading + maps can be found in your material browser. With both of these turned on your normals should show up better.
Not sure if these will fix your normal map issues, but it's worth a shot.
Thank you all, EarthQuake, gsokol, and Shad0wForce!! Everything you said helped! Render is displaying a muuuuuch better normal map!!!
Looks like this. /\
