I want to use this thread to fetch some feedback and to push my artwork farer than i could push it on my own.

So first thing I would like to get some feedback is this painting.

I only used layers, 4 brushes and a reference, wanted to focus on the basics.
What could I improve?

If you're really serious about doing portraiture, I would try a strategy along these lines:

1.) Gather reference (online and off). ConceptArt.Org is a great place to see online sketchbooks and see different learning devices people use. Anatomy books help a lot.

2.) Do a bunch of blockouts. There are many different techniques of portraying simplified forms of the face. Start small, fill pages up with studies of super simple faces at different angles. Do the same thing with eyes and noses and mouths. Do it all!

Image below is courtesy of an artist on ConceptArt.org:

3.) Learn how to make a face convey different emotional qualities, interesting (perhaps distorted) perspectives, ethnical qualities, strong gender qualities, etc.

4.) Sculpt them? Play with lighting and mood, paint them, etc. Learn the shapes before all this though!

I don't mean to sound rude at all with these suggestions. I just feel like you're jumping too far into it without mastering the basics first.

I hope this helps! I pulled the reference images from my inspiration folder and don't have the names of the artists, so I do apologize for that.
