hey, i downloaded the windows service pack 2 update and now my pc wont start up, goes straight to a page saying that it didnt start up properly, due to new hardware or software, and to insert the windows install disk and hit repair, i did that and it didnt work. if i try to go into safe mode or anything it just restarts. i know i can reformat it but i dont want to lose everything so im hoping theres another way.
thanks dan

try googleing it? I imagine theres lots of ppl that have had similar issues - if so theres probably already solutions for it. (as I assume you have internet access which is how you posted this...)
quick google to uninstall service pask 2 (for xp)

I do believe as well that theres issues with service pack 2 and some media download/plugin or something.... Microsoft has an update for it if you have that media package.... As suggested I would google it to see....
[google solves all my computer problems
Try removing all unnecessary hardware, that you can, and see if it will start. For instance, you don't NEED your sound, USB hubs, etc... Even if you can't physically remove it, maybe disable them in the BIOS. If it boots, add in one device at a time. and see which one kills windows.
i tred system restore but it said i had no restore points, ill unplug my speakers and anything else i can think of.
i was going to call windows but they only work weekdays.

Good luck
personally i would take it to local a PC tech pay the $$
and carry on with the rest of life :P
Or one option is just do a install over the top of it that
that way system files are replaced but not the programs etc...
without formatting it which is a lot harder than with XP BTW

my advice is take the time to do a system setup
install your programs of choice, register everything
run everything once configure them they way you like
set your plugins and then do a ghost image of the OS
and next time windows dies it takes just 30-40 mins to revert back to your new shiny setup.....
I echo Bizzar0, go to a tech place and just get it done.
im broke so i cant take it to a tech place, but luckily a friend of a friend is an IT tech and he said he would have a look at it.
thanks all
