I have a friend who shared a youtube video of this fan-made Sonic 2 remake, and I was intrigued enough to investigate further and find a website with a playable demo. Apparently it was created in Unity3D, and although the demo was a bit rough around the edges (the sound stutters sometimes, the input system seems a bit sluggish/sub-par, etc.), I was pretty blown away. I think the demo's shortcomings might be attributed to the Unity3D engine, and not necessarily the coder's fault. It is definitely the best thing I've seen done with Unity.

The main reason I came here was because I'm curious about the artist who's working on this... not because I'm working for a studio that wants to hire him or anything like that, but just out of an idle curiosity (I used to be a hobbyist 3D modeler / modder, hence my membership with this community). I haven't been able to find much information on the guy, and I figured he might be a Polycount member or that there would at least be a thread about it here (which, to my surprise, there wasn't).

Anyway, I'd encourage any gamer who's nostalgic about the 16-bit era to download the demo and check it out. A lot of the Sonic fans who posted in the thread that's linked from the website seem to think that the visuals are "too busy." I agree that they're busy, but I don't think it's too much. I think it works. To me it looks better than any studio-developed 3D side-scroller. I'm curious what you guys think.
