thanks xenokratios:P
thanks nizza! love your work
thanks frell, yes boots could use some work but i am out of time ;x
trying to finalize a pose for beauty render
55joe you done good there mate it's looking sick. You done the yardies proud man.
If you come back to working on this is future might tweak the hair aspects such as the eyebrows and goatie. The boots need more work as frell said but everything else is just noice mate.
thanks chrisradsby~
thanks melonman! totally right on all counts.
thanks turista ! (i think?)
worked onbeauty render, prty much done unles someone finds a terrible part of it that needs redo
Well, I think that you should Tweak the Clothes, They look Very Tick, just look at the Pockets or the the sleeves, if you fix that it will look sharper and less Bloby.
yea cap hotkill, they didnt rig/pose well, wasnt how i intended it, gona work on that beauty render
thanks jayoplus!
here are basic completed renders! done with these at least
if he was blind in his right eye, he would have to learn to hold the rifle, and fire left handed.
you won't hit shit firing with your left eye not looking down the sights. even with (or especially with) the modification you've made to the scope.
I was just scrolling to the thread to mention this problem since he's carrying the rifle on the right, but i see someone already beat me to it!
Still he looks awesome, I feel the beard lost a lot of character after the texture, it really flattened out and started to look more cg to me than the actual sculpt did which is a little odd but it's how i feel
The kneecap piece keeps catching my eye, i just love that little asymmetrical detail you threw in there!
yes i did know about it :P thanks guys, was just being lazy.
well the contest had an extention so i will be going back to fix some things now, like beard and shirt thickness ~
but i was messing with renders last night and thought id share
Wow, this is great work, I'm not too kean on the compositing/lighting though. I'm not a lighting artist or know anything about compositing, so I can't be too helpful except to say that the lighting doesn't do anything for all the amazing modeling you've done on this guy. And your material properties don't reflect cloth/metal/flesh appropriately for one reason or another.
I'm don't know the rules of your contest or what others have commented (i'm just on the way to work or sleep (haven't decided)) and wanted to say good job on the model!
If you could work on the spec of your surfaces and get some SSS on your flesh bits as well as fix the lighting (I know fix isn't terribly helpful) then I think you would have an amazing render. The modeling is top notch though... inspiring even!
thanks nfrrtycmplx i agree with all the comments you made~ since the exention i have started to overhaul all mats, starting with head and beard
thanks hebs :O
This is looking much better. Also, maybe try taking away/back the "frowny brows" a little and I think you'll see a little more humanity in his face than what you've got now. Are you using photos as a base for this texture, or is it all hand made? Looks like maybe 50/50?
thanks builder anthony, my intent wasnt to get rid of the beard just to do the mesh right, the first head i built had the beard sculpted into it, lesson learned, i will never do that again. made the whole thing messed up so i just rebaked the disp and textures and such and it worked out way better this time. in my update i used cards instead of hair and fur. was much easier for me.
thanks marq4porsche, you and alot of other people, and i, agree. hopefully the new 1 isnt so offensive.
scoobydoofus, you're proly right but i just cant go back to the sculpt atm. still alot of things to do
superhappycow thanks! i think by replying it auto subscribes
rick_d thnks man, i agree and when im done with the skin im going to revisist the other mats.
thanks gileruscoe!
here is the update
Looking very good man! The only crit I can give, would be adding more AO in-between the forehead and the hat. The transition between the two is alittle harsh at the moment. Keep it up!
Would prolly agree with just flippin his head geo on the X so his eyes make a bit more sense... assuming that neck tatt is on it's own layer and you can flip it horizontally too ^^
Thanks marq4porsche! i was inspired by all the black ops ads up everywhere when i started this char.
thanks TDub, i agree, i tried to ad some here but might still need more after.
ha thanks badgerbaiter!
thanks alexdubbeat i will!
thanks nizza! yeah. i have been solazy with that, i will at some point, and the tat is on its own layer.
thanks billz ill look into that
ha maltuna -_- thank you sir i just realized who you are after killing maltuna in game so many times
rick_d black ops is hot ~
and thanks dduckworth! i will post wires here
working on materials mostly here
Looking friggen ace! The beard looks sweet now. I do see some weird artifacting under his chin though, weird alpha shadowing? Also his left bicep is going through his sleeve.
I feel like all of the skin other than the face is very bland, and almost zombie looking itself. It needs more livening up. The hat also needs to be toned down a bit, too contrasted from the rest of the model. The texture on the hat also looks a bit blurred, or something, and it really stands out as cg from the rest.
Sorry, to complain, these are small things. The rest deserves a header.
thanks again marq4porsche! yeah i think that shadow is from the cards the alpha is on, ill look into it
thank you simonT!:D
you're right telmac, worked on that in this update, hopefully it shows, thanks for the crit (the arm crit) also tried to fix the bluriness on the hat. i like the color tho, it stays
skepticalnate, thanks man! hahah u are totally right about powdered donut thing.
Doing great dude liking the new changes you made to the eyebrows and beard it looks so much more natural like that for real.
I know it's really hard texturing a black person and making them look natural from experience allot of trile and improvement in my experience anyways.
So I know what your going through mate.
As for skin tones etc
1.
I'd lighten JUST the forehead a little and make it more brown instead of the greyish that part feels a little un-natural. Try to get that area a little more like the cheeks but not as shiny (make sure there's a little gloss to it though).
and 2.
I took a step back and the only thing I can really see wrong with this model is tonal consistency.
Try to balance out the head neck and arms tonally so they all fairly similar. Doesn't have to be exact just close because right now I can see that the arms are more vibrant than the face and especially the neck.
If you do decide to vary it though be careful with desaturating and saturating the textures because too much will make him look like he been to willy wonka's factory and too much desaturation will make him look drained and lifeless try to find a nice balance.
3.
As for the clothing I love it it's really nice got that used feel to it and it feels solid.
Might raise up the normals more on the hat but nothing major.
Overall as I said before this is a really nice piece
Keep it up 55joe.
They seem awfully green/desaturated. I know that if he's rubbin up on grass and stuff staining would occur, but in my opinion, you could make em a little more alive-looking.
Really great job on the skin 55joe the tones look awesome sooo much better and more alive aswell im sure u notice the improvement aswell.
Weapons look beautiful too really nicely done and stylish me likee.
Anyway aside from that ur models siiick 55Joe.
I'd probably tone down the green probably a little exaggerated like natetheartist said but I think your pretty much there really mate
how'd u feel about it?

thanks hebs :O
some of the materials lack shiny which makes it look a little flat but the actual "character" of the piece is amazing.

There appears to be some stretching in the beanie texture, not sure if you've gotten to that part yet.
woah! no need to get nasty

turning out badass indeed
