Hey everyone.
I'm starting a new project; a remake of Rory Swann from StarCraft 2.
The whole time I was playing SC2 I thought he was an awesome character and wanted to attempt to create a version of him.
The idea is to do a lower poly version of him. Kinda like a WoW version of Rory Swann. 6000 tris is my self imposed limit. No normal maps, just diffuse and possibly a spec. All hand-painted.
I've been sketching out some orthos and wanted to get some feedback on proportions.
I'm not sure why (possibly the facial hair) but I always figured he's a Dwarf. So I thought I'd just take a WoW Dwarf for proportionate ref. Having done that though, I think he's actually just a short guy.
A WoW Dwarf is 5 1/2 heads high. I tried 6, but I'm not sure if it looks right. I'm pretty sure his legs are too short. So this is where some opinion would be good.
Here's my current ortho:
Here's a Dwarf proportion scale:
And here's some Blizzard concept art for the character:

I think this may be better;
A few observations:
Distance from belt to bottom of groin is too short(its like the belt is strapped around his penis which isnt comfortable)
His upper body is too narrow(you would suspect taht you could see some of the back area between his arms and chest) and his shoulders look stiff somehow - maybe they are too high up
Also, his face in general looks fragile in your drawing but in the concept he looks stern. Try butching up his whole chin area
Yep, coming back a day later I see numerous problems. Most of which you've touched on.
He definitely needs a bit of an overall bulk-up. I followed the Dwarf proportion guide I made too much and it wasn't helping. So I'll redo it with some more realistic proportions which should hopefully sort things out.
