hey everyone

my ps3 controller isn't connecting to the ps3 anymore. it connects if its plugged in but not when its not, and if i unplug it while its on it just turns itself off(the controller). has anyone else had this problem? it was working fine yesterday, i thought at first that maybe the battery was just flat but iv had it charging and still isn't working

its a real pain coz my cable is only like 2 feet long

thanks

I've had an identical problem for a few years now. From what I can tell, the problem is with the PS3 and not the controller-- I tried them with a friend's console and they worked fine.

Grab some cheap USB extensions, and don't invest in any wireless-only accessories like the move.

Your battery my just be losing it's charge

like 5.00 for a new one..and its relitively easy to replace

(A warning with your trigger buttons though...if you knock them out of true..it is a pain in the ass to get them back in place)

i don't actually think it is the controller battery, it still does the little flashing lights thing that it does when its trying to connect and i don't think it would do that if it was flat

also it doesn't seem to be working when its connected with the cable anymore either, i press the PS button to turn it on and it just does the flashing thing and then nothing,

wish i had another controller so i could test it lol.

anyway thanks again for ur help

The battery of the controller does not come separately. If you have a 3 year warranty for the ps3 go to the gamestop or the store you bought ps3 from and have it exchanged.

if the problem persists, send a ticket to Sony.

Now, I only have experience with the xbox controller but a battery is a battery so here goes:
Something similar to what you described happened to me a couple of months ago. I use a play & charge kit and hadn't used the console for a while. I couldn't start the controller if it wasn't plugged in and it didn't charge, the red light popped up for a couple of seconds, then it went straight to the green light (red light = charging, green = fully charged).

I looked it up, and the solution was to plug the charger in, wait for the light to turn green, then yank it out and put it in again, repeat 15 times. Apparently the battery had run so dry it couldn't even start charging properly, but by doing this, the battery came to life and now functions normally again.

It might not be the same problem you have but I think it's worth a try.

Edit: Ok, if it's not working even when it's plugged in, it sounds like something else is wrong but it doesn't hurt to try I guess.

ok just discovered that if i have the controller plugged in and use the on button on the ps3 the controller still works as long as its connected, i hate technology lol
its also telling my i need a system update thing, do you think that would effect the controller? it never has before

EDIT ok so what ever was wrong has now fixed itself lol it seems to be working fine now:poly122: :D:D:D:D dunno what that was all about lol
