M41A - Aliens Pulse Rifle

Hey!
My next project will be to model and texture the, in my opinion, coolest rifle ever to be created!
The M41A Pulse Rifle from the movie Aliens.
I've gathered tons of reference, but many of them are photos of replicas people have created themselves, so they're not always accurate, so I will try to take the middle road, seeing as there is not many good ref pictures from the movie.
Here is a rough blockout I've made:

Your best bet is going to be an 'idealized' version, the guns in the movie were actually painted brown for example but the set lighting made them appear to have an olive drab color.
Yeah, you can definately see the thompson in there. Got a few refs showing which parts of it was used where etc. There are also pieces of the spas 12 there I think.
The idealized version sounds like a good idea. I made a joke in the classroom that I'd be modeling the M42a. ^^
So yeah.. I'll try to stay as close to the original concept as possible, but change things to make it look better, while keeping the m41a feel to it.

and your aliens rifle has been made many times you should have no trouble finding modeling refs for it.
Yeah, I have a folder just flooded with refs. However, many differ in width, some angles etc.
But yeah, it shouldn't be any problems modeling it.

I have photographs of the original props from the Bapty warehouse if you're interested. You probably already have them, though.
Would it? The cheapest and most efficient way to manufacture the polymer frame for the receiver of the weapon, if you were mass-producing it, would be sonic-welded molded halves, which would leave a seam.
I say leave it. Adds some character to the model in a way you don't see commonly. If it's done right and properly depicts a manufacturing mold seam instead of looking like a modeling mistake, it'll look tits. :thumbup:
About the seam. I will have a seam, but it will not look like this. The seam you see now is just a poorly aligned center point of the model. ^^
