I used 3ds max and mental ray for this.I'm really trying to improve as I hope to someday work in the game industry.Any suggestions would be great.I don't know what to work on , or what my next step should be.
The first thing you need to think about is proportions and size.
Your topic says shack it does not look like a shack it looks more like a new production house that has not been sold/completed yet.
Right now that fence looks like a miniature compared to the house and that danger sign is soooooo big. Back to the fence... If you want to keep someone or something out.. Why have a non complete fence its more like a stand alone wall right now. You could walk around it...
Those trees looks like they are made of 2 x 4 planks try to make it more natural.
Also think of placement and function. Why is that over sized trash container in front of the house? Like it's on display.
Try to find or make a reference pictures first or even a sketch. There is a lot of details missing in all.
Also, when someone builds a building, there's some kind of foundation prepared first. Your lansdacpe undulates a bit too much near the building and it looks odd because of it.
Think about what the different elements in the scene are doing and why they are there. If you want stuff to be convincing, you should use reference to decide on their look.
Have you seen a tree like that? make a suitable tree after looking at reference of trees.
The dumpster seems too short. is it based on one you've seen?
What's the point of an electrified fence to keep people out if you can just walk around it? if the pieces you can see are part of a larger fence that has been torn down, maybe include some more fenceposts or sections of fence on the ground where that happened.
Give the scene a story even if its just simple stuff like - 'the dumpster is there because the house is being rennovated.'
This kind of dialogue in your head will help to decide what else needs to be in the scene: there may be debris similar to drywall or floorboards sticking out of it. It may be closer to the house to make it easier to fill it. There may be spilled debris nearby or other stuff stacked against a wall that is going to be re-used by the builder later on. Tools, building materials, splashes of dirt where concrete or plaster have been mixed, and so on.
Thanks, I really appreciate your input.I'm loving those shack references as well.I essentially made up the ground and modeled a dumpster near my apartment that I thought looked good.So your right in saying it all doesn't fit together. The tree also was made up.Great Advice!
