Wine Cellar Lighting WIP

Hey guys, I'm currently lighting a Wine Cellar scene for my friend. This is still a WIP, just looking for some lighting critique. A few of the objects have not been textured ATM however, he is going to texture them once i get the scene back to him.

Right now i only have the one camera rendered, will be posting some more cameras later.

A few things about the current image about the direction i am considering going is, the torches on the wall although they don't show it, it is candle light, and the door is a key light source, i am planning on having abit of blue spill coming in, so all the colors are not orange. Also the fog on the light is not final

Any lighting critique is greatly appreciated.

Thanks :)

I think there should be more contrast in light and shadow, at the moment theres a lot of warm yellowish light in the scene but very little shadows apart from the door.
I would make the small table the centre piece with the spot light and give the light emitting from the door a blue-ish tint for the sky and make the wine bottles to the right almost pitch black.

Then you have a nice gradient of light from left to right of strong and warm for the yellow light to weak and cold for the blue light

You could try adding a light source up above the wine rack to the right. As it stands now no serious light is hitting those making them feel dull and without shadow.

I like what you did with the door.

i had the same thought...and hopefully the bounce light from all the bottles will give you a nice greenish glow if you desaturate the electrical light a bit

i would kill the torch lights...at east the three on the back wall as its over complicating the lighting and reduces the overall interest of the scene...just have the unlit torches for interest....

That looks really good ^ but maybe a little too green imo. Seems to take away from the door light a bit aswell.

better...theres flat space between the door and the wine rack i would either

    - add a light similar to my paintover
    or
    - keep it dark but try to make that corner behind the door darker...maybe move the barrel into that corner and remove the light coming through from there... also beef up the strength of the light on the wine rack close to you

    like this-

I agree with Shepeiro. Those changes will really help. Good job so far.

I think your composition needs a little work.
According to the rule of thirds you're focal points might server you better if you nudged them around a bit.

Thanks alot for the link VG. I didnt originally plan on having it as the end composition, more as something that i can see alot of the set, however i am looking at an angle like this, very possibly like you said, just tweaking it more that the key items are more on the 3rds.

Ill also be posting a few more angles, one being a close up area of the wine bottle, and another being the otherside of the right wall.

    Thanks very much
