My first question. Im currently modelling a USP Handgun model and could do with your expert advice. How many Tris would you guys reccomend for current gen? 500? 1000? Not poly's......tris. Much appriciated.

Are there going to be a lot of them on screen at once, or just one?
These factors (and others) all determine how you should look at your triangle count.
If it's a first-person view model for a next-gen FPS (think TF2, L4D2, UT3 etc), then you'll probably want to spend up to 5000 triangles on it, since it's just a handgun.
For third-person models probably closer to 1000 triangles is more appropriate, but it really depends. It could go up to 2000 or as low as 500 depending on the platform / engine / view distance / number on screen etc.
