I did most of the grill in 30 minutes or so last night to help someone on the irc, then I decided to finish up the high poly and maybe bake it for a new portfolio piece.
Then I got crazy with a lattice deform-er, I kinda got lucky with the mesh-part. Seems like I got lucky with the spacing and number of "threads," its pretty close to the real thing, and I didn't count. :P
Nvm, fixed, now I just got to clean up the seams. All I had to do was make sure the rest of the uv space for the globe was attached and hanging off the edge.
Fixed everything, I had to make it a half instead of a forth, just wouldn't line up right, I even re-modeled the whole mesh
Will finish up the rest tomorrow, I need some rest. I think I might bump up the roundness of the cylinder, its at 264 tris right now. Texture is at 512, I think I'll leave it at that for presentation, I think I may also model in the band, right now its jaggity because of the UV layout.
Oh i know it's a old thread, but i saw you using Softimage there!
Could you tell me how did you do the part when you apply that grid like mesh of the Mic to a sphere? I have a lot of problems finding the right tools to apply One stuff to fit another round stuff in Softimage...
I just used the lattice deformer multiple times to slowly pull it into the right shape, not sure if I'd try doing that again, but it worked well enough.

After making the lattice, how did you make a head of mic. (part of lattice on the modelling)
It looks like my idea for the metal part worked, besides for being miss aligned and making a weird lumpy sphere, how do I fix that.
