Teaming up with urgaffel for this one.
Since I've been planning to do an old-school beat-em-up starring a musician friend of mine, this challenge dovetails nicely into that project.
After a bit of discussion, we've decided to go with an amusement park as the setting.
The theme park will be pretty wrecked, but we're staying away from the dingy derelict look, as the destruction will have happened only moments beforehand. The same catastrophe has turned everyone but our intrepid heroes into... yes, zombies.
It'll start off in a concert/gig area, on-stage (where our heroes were about to play a gig). Might have a funhouse and other interiors, but we're still in the planning/discussion stages right now.
Challenges:
Finding a balance between modularity and variety
Possibly experimenting with shader writing
Finishing the blasted thing.
Bonus: Going the extra mile and finishing the game
Style:
Painterly, and colorful
crazy perspective
lowpoly enough to run comfortably on lower-spec'd machines
Engine:
Unity
I've currently got some basic blockout done in Unity to play around with the camera and perspective, as well as test out some quick 2D characters to see that they work ok with the perspective and camera angle.

We'll update more when we've got some layouts sketched.

Sounds like we are going to be doing pretty similar environments.
I'm looking forward to seeing how mine compares to yours later on down the line. Good luck guys!
will you be able to go through the entrance??
