:poly121: I've been looking forward to participating in this enviro challenge!! :poly009: Intro: Ok firstly I'm new to the forums- hi guys!- and this is my first challenge. I'm an animation degree student currently in my final year, so due mainly to my final project taking up a lot of time as it is I can't go too epic with the design. My ambitions are to become a level environment artist of sorts, and from my experience with 3D tools and the UDK so far, I've got an enjoyable future ahead of me : ) I'm seeing this challenge as a chance to let loose and put all the basic skills I've learnt into one piece to see what happens -> it WILL be fun!! : ) Challenges: 1. Find where I stand in terms of general artistic ability, 3d tool skills and colour theories (if theories used at all). 2. Find the most efficient production methods best suited to me. 3. Become more acquainted with ZBrush & UDK. 4. Get the basics of hard-surface modelling, foliage and lighting in UDK down pat. The Idea: In a nutshell the scene will start as a natural environment that blends into a futuristic sci-fi "castle" kind of building. It will be set in the night time and the natural environment will be lit up by the moon, and as you progress along the scene, the dark blue lighting etc will transition into the lit up artificial lighting and sci-fi castle's kind of look. What kind of natural and sci-fi designs and assets I will include will be decided on the run.
FUTURE CASTLE SCENE 1. Outdoor area, moonlit, mostly bluey, with rocks/cliffs/foliage/water/rubble/wreckage/stream. Colourful night-time illuminated plants/flying bugs. 2. Castle Entrance: sci fi Yard/Walls/courtyard/alleyway night time bluey purpley.moonlit. 3. Indoor colourful room, pinks, purples, blues reds etc. So the direction I will take will be to have an outdoor setting that transitions into an indoor room. Indoors I will be able to practice/use the brighter interior lighting, same with brighter colours. I will not create much, if any concept art at all. Due to lack of skills and time I'll just be creating as I go along, with the basic layout kept in mind. Reference images will come in handy. Hence I'm kind of vague with specific design style. Next up....blocking out the scene!
