First time entering and this will be my first attempt at a complete environment.
Plan:
Make a scene fitting Medieval 'scrappers'. They recycle stuff they find into weapons. The goal for the player is to break into the base to fight the lord of that tribe.
Engine will probably be UDK. If not, Unity.
Games for inspiration are Castle Crashers, Brink and Borderlands, but I want to try and get something different going.
Challenges:
- Finishing on time (breadth first approach)
- My first environment
- Getting it into an engine and make it into a decent portfolio piece.
- Practicing texture painting for metal, wood, cloth and leather
- Keep everything cleanly consistent throughout (working in passes, instead of throwing too much time into one thing only)
- If time allows, maybe try to incorporate normal maps into my workflow
- Create an unique style, so that I can add characters afterwards and try to build it into a full level/game.
