Hello all,

I will be using UDk, I have only messed around with it so far so one of my main challenges will be using this engine.
As of now my Idea is to do a sort of hyper-realistic style but I want to really try and push my skills with realism as I usually tend to lean towards a cartoony feel.

I am planning on doing a prison scene, most likely pretty over the top, lots of machinery and some destruction (after an insane prison riot).

I want to make sure that every screen feels like it belongs in the same building but have different looks to them.

Possible area for a boss fight at the end.

Challenges

Using the UDK engine
Sticking to a realistic style
Creating both non organic and organic props.
Possible characters in scene (eyes or hands in cages)
Animated objects
Illuminated objects
Finishing :'(

References

Still looking for some more references, so far I am looking at the Half Life 2 prison and some things like Alcatraz but if anyone can think of any other really cool looking prison scenes that would be a great help :)
I want the level to feel as full of detail as something like the Bounty Arms UDK demo

After a little more thought I cant believe I forgot Batman AA as a reference, its pretty much the style I would like to achieve.

Heres a layout of what I am thinking so far:

Basically you would start coming out of an older style elaborate elevator and into a room full of machinery all producing a very hot reddish/orange feel to the room. This is the area where the guards tried to hold back the prisoners and is shown with the sandbags, shell casings, boxes of ammo, etc.

From there the player will move through a busted security door and across a (hopefully) moving security bridge which is broken and sparking and closing in a very perilous manner (throw a bad dude in there to see him get munched). The room will be a much darker room than the first and feature a much more technological feel and an almost purple ambient light.

The final area will be the beginnings of the jail cells and a large barred gate that has been broken through by being frozen and smashed (think Mr. Freeze).

I still need to think about more details to both the second and third areas and would like to have different ways to kill your enemies in each (IE throwing off bridge into the gears or smashing on spike etc etc)

I want it to feel brutal :)
