The challenge is being judged as a static images, I'm pretty sure no one would really care if you just only counted 1 frame of the animated texture, if I was doing an ocean for a real game I'd want it to be an animated texture, but if its going to be static I just NEED 1 frame.
Can you contrain the forward movement of the player to a spline/path in UDK. So camera is always side on character but the character travels through the environment three dimensionally (following path) with 2d controls . A bit like Nights into dreams and Viewtiful Joe
I know there is a working way with the UDK script , here is a script to adapt if you want to http://pastebin.com/f60d2df9d
Unfortunately I failed to make it works , I had some issue with the world coordinate as the player was orienting itself to the path normal( I don't really know unreal scripting language anyway).
So I gave up for now, else I would have never start my level

No idea where you got this from. The contest is being judged by however an entry is presented.
I'm not sure if many people know, but there is a web site with TONS of compiled levels from old (and not so old) games, including some sidescrollers. Its worth looking, for some inspiration at least :poly121:
so sorry to hijack this thread and ask about kismet, but after trying out your kismet script ( excellent tut btw ), i noticed that its no longer possible to have the player shoot?
can we include 'characters' or NPCs in the background which are really just part of the environment background/scenery (like the autonomous worker bots in the bounty-arms demo - or say the cheering crowds in the background of a street fighter game...).
Was there any comment on this? The environment I'm looking into would definitely benefit from background NPCs.
Any chance we can get the final submission thread up today? Me and Keen wont be around tommorow to submit on time. So we'd like to submit tonight if possible.
Can't help you there on a specific tool, but i simply copied all my textures to a unique folder and pasted them into a 4096x2048 image (as the challenge dictated). It didn't take too long, but was useful for optimizing.

|SIZE=4||COLOR=White|[YOUR ENTRY OR USER NAME] |/COLOR||/SIZE|
Thats the format, just change the | with the appropriate [ (beginning) brackets (end) ]
It's specifically regarding getting our textures collated for the competition, else I'd ask in the tech support forum.
Any help would be greatly appreciated Will submit what we have when I wake up later Time for zzz's.
