Kind of a generic character, I wanted to work on something as photoreal as I could. So I decided to do a char based on my brother and since he's big on skateboarding seemed like a obvious character to make.
The torso is way too long. Most skateboarders wear their pants lower so I completely understand why this was done, but try making it more apparent that his pants are below his waist (not just making the shirt way too long). The length of his arms don't help much either, they need to be shorter in my opinion. Also, the folds on the front look a little strange to me.
Agreed on the torso thing. Also, the wrinkles in his pants look nice..but dont skaters these days wear the super tight girly pants (no disrespect) I would think they would fit a lot tighter.
Another thing...Would the logo on the front of the shirt pop out like that? I would think its just printed on the front..unless its a really, really thick print.
As a stylized character, I quite like the proportion with longer torso. But because you said you try to make it as real as possible, then you should shortened it a bit. Btw, you said it based on your own brother right?..why don't you take a photo reference of him for you to use a reference background plate in whatever 3D apps that you're using, it'll make sure you work on a correct proportion.
One more thing, his eyebrow area seems a bit weird to me right now.
These are my brothers proportions. He is a lanky human. I did my base model according for a front and side ortho. The folds on the pants still need work but I would say 90% done and the shirt has a lot more to be done to it. Currently waiting on a replacement intuos 4 pen, crapped out while I was sculpting this. Best luck.
The shirt he was wearing had an embossment like the logo was stiched, but i may have made it extrude to much you are right.
Ok, update here. Just finishing up on the shirt. I was pretty happy with this, until I watched my roommate play red dead redemption. Now I am only medium happy with this. The bar is raised.
The folds look somewhat natural, but what ruins it for you are the hard edges where the fold blends back into un-folded material. You need to create a softer transition at that point, because the way it looks now I can easily determine where your brush strokes are. Also it looks like the collar area of the shirt needs some work, it is quite thick at the moment and looks borderline turtle neck :P
At first I thought his pants were sagging, which is something you can absolutely do for this hip character - however you would want to shorten the length of the shirt to reveal the upper portions of his underwear and lower stomach (and bunch up the leg sleeves at the shoe). But like everyone else says, right now he just looks out of proportion.
The body is just -still- too long and the cheek bone is kinda weird, it's not suppose to be that obvious curved into the nose area. Why don't you post up some pic reference, so at least we can judge from what you see as the reference, otherwise you just going to get an "out of proportion" comments.
what happens with this new style of skating clothes, it's really ugly and very stretchy, they look more like a techno dancers than a skater !! I regret the good old days of baggy pants and big sweetshirts
I've been learning zapplink + polypainting on this texturing job and I had a lot of fun using these techniques. I still want to work on the skin some more, he also needs a skateboard and a pose
to those of you who said that most skateboarders wear girly pants nowadays, that is mostly just a stereotype. As I see it, the ones with tight pants just hang out at the skatepark and smoke, mostly so they can get chicks that think skateboarding is cool and like screamo music. I have a friend that is actually pretty good at skateboarding and he dresses like this, with slightly less baggy pants. all of his skateboarding buddies dress that way as well.

Judgemental much? I wear my Fall Out Boy shirt with pride!
It's actually hard to stereo a certain style for skateboarders. There's such a large spectrum of styles, as well as it being very international. But there are pro's that do rock skinny jeans(girly pants?) and maintain there ability to perform on a pro level. i.e Chris Haslam.
This is how my brother dresses, So i chose his Style.
Nice progress on the texture, I like the jeans a lot..But his face is still feels weird to me, can you post some close up shot of the face?..Also it looks like his butt is too flat right now, the "mass" position is not on the jeans back pocket but above that, since he wear his pants like that style. Squint you eye and focus on the silhouette (please get rid of the gradient BG, it distract you from focusing on the silhouette hehe) you'll notice he doesn't have any butt compare to your reference photo. Keep up dude!
It really looks like he's got a butt somewhere in those pants, going back to the long torso comment from earlier. Also, the part where the shirt comes up over the pants on the left? The wrinkles should curve across and downward from that point, instead of upwards from the side of that point.
I'm having trouble deciding about proportions on the arms, but I'm tired.. Upper arm looks longer?

Other than that your off to a good start

Keep it up though
The shirt definitely looks better, but it currently has those hard-edged stylized folds which look cool but aren't very realistic.
Anyways, keep it up it's definitely shaping up nice!
