Fearian: May be using bad shader or maps not hooked right. I don't know. Once again too tired to worry too much. The viewer for the game, however, is much more glossy looking than it is in the engine proper. So it could be a bit of both problem.=)
rock elementals nooooo..they used to terrorize me! XD
Really great stuff, i love how all your work is pushed to emphasize character...for the worm and rhino beast, there is just a certain realism to their overall look that makes me feel like it's modeled after a real beast I could go outside and see (I mean the actual thing you modeled). As for the elemental, well, we all know rocks can't think! (or can they!?!? ), but he looks great too.
I really can't wait for GW2 and I know it's going to set standards for the game industry if everything goes as you guys intend. The pure quality of work and the feats you are attempting to feature is just really great. If it does work out, I really hope more companies try to establish the same type of interactivity and "real" teamwork/community
Awesome! I was going to post about how much I loved the first one, then I scrolled down and thought the same, then I saw the third one and thought... I like em all! Nice work
all of them are technically 8 days. but with revisions and polish time god only knows. The tech we have used on this stuff changed so dramatically over the last year or two that we end up doing a hell of a lot of reworking.
Jack: Dev commands are your friend. I was swimming in the hole today!
thanks man. I'll likely not be updating this thread til next week. Taking week off to recover from working overnights playing the game. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH.
This stuff is badass Joe, i love it!! The fire cage beast looks like you had a lot of fun working on him And you gotta love some bloody scorpion stabby crab.
Saw these over at conceptart.org and thought i would share...

I'm pretty sure beautyshots from the engine would work way better than the plastic looking shaders you just applied and i have no doubt the game will look great as a whole. But just for me to understand, and please don't take it offensive.
A Creature like the worm or earthelemental, took 8 days to create, revisions and changes not included?
Wow, i wish i had so much time on my hands. I know it may sound harsh but I have to say, that the worm is more like a 1-2 days job. While the sculpt seems to be nice work, i don't think it pops out that much, the texture looks like it didn't take much time at all and i think it is the weakest parts on all of the models you present here, maybe its mostly old stuff and things have changed and already been adressed, but texturewise the only part i really like is the fleshy parts, the whole shell could definitely use some colourvariation and specularityvariation going on to make it a great piece.
The Earthelemental looks super random to me, this is more a design decision i guess - but it could be slapped together from just some rocks that have already been created by env artists, to me definitely not special enough to be worth the time you put into it.
I like the beast very much, it looks like the sculpt is VERY well done but it doesn't look as good on the lowpoly, maybe its the shader and ingame it looks much better but i think again the texture and or shading is pushing it down.
Also I like the firethingy, definitly some complex stuff going on, and i think 8 days sounds reasonable on this piece. The textures have a nice amnount of variation going on and i really like the lower body, the rock/lava stuff looks very nice, and the glowing bits are a great touch.
Together with the rhino my favourite pieces.
I would really love to see the sculpts of these and actual ingameshots to see them in all their glory, and thats what its all about, if it fits in the game and looks great forget all the stuff i said, just wanted to reply on what i can see here.

So this is an older shot of a monster from an older video. But. Here.
This one is defintely an old material set and old shot. I'll update it when I get a chance with a ninja edit you will never notice. =P
You guys are obviously working too hard over there.

some of your spec powers seam a bit too glossy on a few of your early posts though
looking good joe!
