@mike - hey if you mean the blocks in the back i get what you mean, it's mirrored from the front blocks so thats the view you get. And yeah there is tons of that I have to break it up, I was afraid to becuase I neglected to bake my AO with an exploded mesh so there's tons of black, but I'll lighten up that Ao and then shift some things around. And yeah I agree about the moss, I was worried about it looking to uniform, will see what I can do thanks
@skuee - nah I actually wasn't lol. I just overlayed one texture over each block, then painted some variation to try and break it up, obviously not that succesful I guess. Again as i mentioned before I'll move em around. And about the asset it's actually a fountain http://freetextures.3dtotal.com/library/free_textures_640/Urban%20Objects/Miscellaneous/IMG_4907_640.jpg I didn't follow the ref exactly and kinda went my own way with some things (i dunno if theyre positive or negative) but yeah. And about professionalism, well yeah, but cmon this is polycount, with dick tanks and entire threads of cat gifs lol
well heres an update, added some black following skuee's suggestion, fixed up the black on my AO so I could rotate and move some pieces around to get it looking more interesting. And I also played with the moss to make it less uniform. I hope this is better,
This is looking better. This looks a whole lot less uniform then the first pictures you posted. I'm glad you pulled some of the geometry out and pushed some in. I would still address the mini blocks you have at the right upper corner on the right, and the lower left corner on the left. In context of the whole piece, it doesn't make sense as to why they would use many small blocks for a 'pillar'-like end.
You said you deviated from your reference. Why not keep going? When I look at this..it screams beginning of steps. Like cement, or stone steps leading up to a building. Why not build in more geometry and add some steps?
I'm afraid I really don't get what you mean by the steps, could you maybe give me a pic or elaborate a little bit more? And I fixed the little bricks, good suggestion, it was looking wierd. Here's the change
The moss you have growing now looks more like randomly placed grass stains. I liked how you before it looked as if it made since. There was more water collecting around the bottom therefore it was more likely for the moss to grow. Maybe play with some dirt collecting in the crevices. And if it becomes difficult to tile them just create a couple of texture variations... for each block. No one said you couldn't have more than one texture for each model. Unless you have this all one one texture...
woah hey there everyone, long time no post in here it seems. Just started freshman year of high school and I'm still adjusting to the new workload. It's been nearly impossible to find time for arting with schoolwork and cross country.
But anyways, to come back to it, I've decided to model the amp that ive owned for like 7 years, the Roland Micro Cube, sick little amp. Figured it would be both good modeling practice and material practice

gonna throw on a noise modifier to the whole thing and I already have a tiling texture to throw on it once thats done.
edit: finished with the block, now I just gotta clean up the geometry and style it up a little
Good progress! I would suggest adding a bit more damage to the paint on the subway railling to have a bit more weathering where peoples hands might be touching as well as some paint chipping. Otherwise looks good!
Wow thanks guys that means a lot And yeah justin I'm going to do a complete redo of that asset before I put that into my folio, so many stupid mistakes in it lol.

don't really have any refs because the amp is just plopped on my desk so no other pics to post really.
Thanks for looking
