Polymesh Problem

Hello,

Im new to this website and 3D modeling too, and I just bought Zbrush the other day and had a problem. I started looking at this tutorial for beginners sculpting in Zbrush and for some reason when I press the "Make Polymesh 3D" button, it doesnt actually do it. It says "You cant edit this until you click Make Polymesh 3D" even though I just did several times. (I am in edit mode when I do this.) I tried reinstalling the whole program and it still has the problem. Is there a fix for this? I contacted support but havent heard back yet. I cant believe that I just bought it and one of the main features isnt working. :poly127:

After clicking the "make polymesh" button, check the tool palette. Your newly made polymesh should be sitting there. Just click on it to make it the active tool in the document.

Nope, nothings there. The button doesnt do anything. (btw this is Zbrush 4)

What tool are you trying to sculpt on?

Whenever I make anything, for example in the tutorial they said to put a gear down...

Like CheeseOnToast said, after you clicked on the 'Make Polymesh 3D' button, a mesh will be created from the tool and placed in your palette. Select it and draw it out onto the document, then hit the 'edit' button and now you should be able to sculpt on the mesh.

I get what you mean by a new mesh will be created, I have seen videos of people using it and I see how it creates a new one in your tool palette. But its as if my Make Polymesh 3D button doesnt even do anything, it affects nothing and makes nothing new. There has been no response from support.

Do you have the 'gear' selected as the current tool?

I select the gear, place it, press Make Polymesh 3D and it doesnt do anything. It does not make it editable or add another in the tools palette. This is for anything I make, not only the gear.

Have you tried it with other tools like a 'Plane3D?'

Just tried it, and it still doesnt work. It does this for everything. But the premade objects that you can start with like the sphere, rhino, human head are editable because they came as Polymesh

I just tried this and it works absolutely fine in Z4.

1) choose gear from the tool palette.
2) draw onto canvas
3) go into 'edit' mode
4) press the make polymesh 3d button, see the new thing appear in the tool palette, i think it is selected automatically.
5) draw on the mesh and it sculpts!

I understand that it works for most people, but it doesnt for me. Those are the steps I always do.

You on Mac or PC? Sounds like a bug to me. Try the direct support forums on Zbrush Central.

Im on a PC. I tried posting there but no one replied What am I to do if reinstalling it doesnt work?

LOg into your support account and log a ticket with them, pixo are usually quite fast to respon. You'll need all your reg. info to setup the support account if you don't have it already.

They'll get you going in no time I expect.

I'm still waiting for a response to a direct support thread from last week. I think they're a bit overwhelmed with the number of activation issues that came with the Zbrush 4 release. Try waiting a few more days.

I fixed it, it randomely started working :P

I have the same problem... i was eable to transform a plane3d in a polymesh and sculpt and now... no more!:(

Even if it's a lillte bit to late, here is the solution that i found:


Make polymesh 3d works but you first need to press in the tool palet import button, then cancel.
