maya 2010 hide vertex normals

i know how to show and hide vertex normals in maya 2010. but for some reason, everytime i create a primitive, or even open up a scene, it draws the vertex normals for that object, or scene. is there a way to disable it from doing this?

its annoying to constantly have to hide vertex normals ever time i make something, or open a file.

using maya 2010 x64
