Soooo, I was really stoked for Castlevania fun. I ended up just buying it instead of playing the demo. I dunno, I'm a bit let down. I haven't tried any of the co-op or multiplayer, but the single player experience has left me feeling...meh.
I've played a few levels with each character, and I can't really find a character I enjoy playing. You seem extremely under powered to start. Void of any story whatsoever. Lack of interesting loot. Half an hour of climbing to a boss only to get one shot, because you don't know the boss mechanics. Having to crawl back through the level to fight the boss once more and learn the mechanics. The only reason I feel that I would go back and redo levels is to collect more food/health for later boss encounters.
Anyone else playing this? Thoughts?
Music is on point though, love the metal soundtrack.

It's a really great game if you actually play it how it's supposed to be played.
The character progression is the only issue I have with the game, it doesn't necessarily explain how each character progresses.. But once you've got that down it's incredibly fun.
But that's what Castlevania is, right?
I mean, they've constantly added in completely new advancement systems for each of their games, but does that honestly change the Castlevania gameplay?
It's really about the hack and slash and equipment hunting, that's what Castlevania has always been.
I see no real difference here, people may complain about there not being a story, but did the others have any different stories? They all began and ended the same exact way.
The only differences they had were the subtle changes in the style of the castle, though it's always quite the same design, the changes in advancements and the new characters.
All they did here was add in the possibility for us to hack/slash and gear hunt with our buddies. - I'm honestly 100% fine with this, all I ask for is that they keep adding to it, porting previous content.
The only good Castlevania story was SotN, and even then the story was very bland.. Amazingly simple yet successful because of the gameplay, never once did I care about the story, never once did I care about any story in the series.. I came back for the gameplay.
I do agree with adventure however, they should add in a gametype that randomizes a castle, then darkens the areas you haven't been to.
Even the equipment hunting aspect is meh. There's barely any variety in equipment. Apparently, that doesn't change in later levels either. Leaving there zero reason to go back and dungeon crawl on past dungeons...aside from gather food to survive.
Agreed.
